What our Students say about Sunstone Yoga
I like to practice yoga at the end of the day because it helps me to integrate, accept and release. Yoga is about strength, balance, focus, self control and clarity.

    Details

Use our Focus Wristbands™ to encourage and assist you in developing your yoga practice. Each color level defines an area of focus for your practice and provides new goals to achieve. After 10 classes, you will receive your introductory wristband. You earn your first Focus Wristband when you reach class 25. Each focus area corresponds to its relevant chakra, which in yoga is the traditional energy system of the body. Read more about the chakras and your progression of focus in the descriptions below, and wear your Focus Wristband to remind you of your current area of concentration, and as encouragement to practice regularly.
Class 10 | Sunstone Yoga Red

    Sunstone Yoga
    Class 10
Wear your first wristband with pride! You have earned it. The first 10 classes can be the most difficult, as you adjust to a new environment and new physical movements. Focus on acclimation and be patient with yourself. Listen to your body. Have persistence and determination. Attend Wood class and ask questions about the postures. You are developing new and positive habits and there are sure to be ups and downs. Be grateful to yourself for the effort you are making. Yoga is one of the few fitness activities you can do your entire life with ever-increasing quality. Keep going.

    Class 25 | Foundation

Building a solid foundation is your focus. Concentrate on alignment, consistency, and adjusting to the practice of yoga. The corresponding chakra is Muladhara, the root chakra. This is the 1st chakra, located below the sacral area of the body. This area is known in yoga tradition to correspond to survival, security, the primal energy of the body, and smell. The corresponding element is Earth.
    Muladhara | Foundation
    Class 25
    Class 50 | Desire

The second area of focus is desire. Now you are creating an internal desire for your yoga practice with consistency. As you focus on developing a relationship with your practice, you will be rewarded with a better understanding of your body and mind. The sacral chakra, Svadhistana, corresponds to this focus. Located in the sacral area of the body, the second chakra is the traditional source of emotional desire and corresponds to relationships, sexuality, intimacy, and taste. The related element is Water.
    Svadhisthana | Desire
    Class 50
    Class 75 | Purpose

Having accomplished 75 classes, your understanding of the purpose of your yoga practice will begin to develop and change. Try to let your yoga practice communicate purpose to you rather than assigning it purpose. The corresponding chakra is Manipura, the navel chakra. This is the 3rd chakra and is located in the solar plexus. In yoga tradition this chakra governs vitality, inner strength, self control, the digestive system, the ego compulsion, and sight. The corresponding element is Fire.
    Manipura | Purpose
    Class 75
    Class 100 | Balance

The fourth area of focus is balance. By now, you recognize that your yoga practice requires a balance of many aspects. Notice how strength balances with flexibility, how determination balances with surrender. As your cumulative yoga experience allows you to shift your attention to balance in all things, allow this to extend beyond your yoga practice. The related chakra is the heart chakra, Anahata. The 4th chakra is located in the middle of the chest, and is known in yoga tradition to correspond to love, forgiveness, compassion, the circulatory system and touch. The related element is Wood.
    Anahata | Balance
    Class 100
    Class 200 | Openness

The fifth area of focus is openness. Concentrate on clear expression of your practice both physically and verbally. Breath becomes the fuel of your yoga practice. Trust yourself and your instincts. The throat chakra is called Vishuddhi. This is the 5th chakra, located in the area of the throat. This area is thought to govern creativity, speech, will, higher intelligence, the respiratory system and hearing. The related element is Metal.
    Vishuddhi | Openness
    Class 200
    Class 350 | Wisdom

After 350 classes, wisdom is your focus. You now have a deep experiential understanding of yoga. Share and trust your experience. Allow the inner perception you have received from yoga to expand to all aspects of your life. The corresponding chakra is the third eye, Anja. This is the 6th chakra, located between the eyebrows. Traditionally this chakra is the energy of intuition, insight, and thought. This chakra is beyond the elements and is said to relate to the Moon.
    Ajna | Wisdom
    Class 350
    Class 500 | Union

The seventh area of focus is union. Use your awareness to stay in the moment. Acknowledge the good things in your life and give no thought to the divisive. Sahasrara, the crown chakra, corresponds to this focus. The 7th chakra is located above the crown of the head. The functions of this chakra are said to be higher consciousness, enlightenment, inspiration, and spiritual understanding. This chakra relates to the Sun.

    Balance & Quality

Having developed all 7 focus areas, your attention is now on the balance and quality of each area. The brighter these qualities glow in you, the brighter you will find your physical, mental and emotional health. Wear your wristbands as a reminder of your achievement. Congratulations.
